Interlibrary loan
allows HPU library patrons
to borrow materials
from other libraries that are not available in our collection.
When should I use Interlibrary
Loan?
If you've checked our catalog for materials and/or the information you need
is not available through one of our many online full-text databases, then I.L.L.
is the service for you. Remember: many items can be requested through the catalog
from the Abilene academic libraries. If you are unsure if you need to use Interlibrary
loan, please ask for help.
How long will it take to receive the materials?
Most requests can be filled in about a week - although actual response times
may vary depending upon availability. Allow 7-14 days to be sure. Please indicate
on the form the date after which you can no longer use the item. When the library
receives your requested item, we will notify you and you can pick up (and return)
your material to the Circulation Desk.
Are there any limitations?
The library must follow the copyright guidlines which limit our requests to
no more than 5 articles from any one journal title per year. Students are limited
to 10 requests per month. Remember that some items may not be available - most
libraries will not loan reference, A/V, or rare materials.
Is there a charge?
The HPU library will not charge for ILL unless the lending library charges us
(usually $5-$10). We will make an effort to notify the patron of possible charges
before accepting the loan. Please indicate on the request form how much you
are willing to pay for the material should a charge be necessary.
A $5 processing fee will be charged to the patron if the ILL materials are not
picked up at the Circulation Desk within five (5) days of being notified.
Overdue charges for ILL books are $.50 per day per item. (Photocopies of materials
are your to keep).
